“Ciao Lula, vuoi presentarti al nostro pubblico?”

Ciao, mi chiamo Lucia Mauri Moneo, ma tutti mi chiamano Lula, ho 20 anni e vivo a Madrid, in Spagna. Studio da due anni “International Relations and Intelligence” presso l’Università “Francisco de Vitoria” di Madrid e sto frequentando il terzo anno del corso di Laurea in Italia, all’Università degli Studi di Padova come studentessa Erasmus. Attualmente vivo presso la residenza Job Campus del Collegio Don Mazza di Padova.

“Perché hai scelto di venire proprio in Italia per il tuo Erasmus?”

Ho sempre desiderato conoscere realtà differenti rispetto alla mia e sperimentare abitudini e stili di vita delle altre culture. Il mio essere espansivo mi porta in maniera naturale a entrare in contatto con gli altri e stabilire dei solidi legami. Per tale ragione e per la volontà di mettermi alla prova con l’esperienza da fuorisede, ho valutato positivamente l’idea dell’Erasmus e ho scelto di partire.

Come destinazione l’Italia mi è sembrata l’opzione migliore, perché mio padre è italiano, e anche se sono stata diverse volte a Roma e in altre città italiane, non ho mai vissuto qui. Volevo spostarmi di casa ricercando però il calore e l’affetto che solo i paesi caldi del Mediterraneo sanno regalarti. L’accoglienza italiana è stata pazzesca, non ho dubbi che questo sia il miglior Paese che avrei potuto scegliere per l’Erasmus.  

Le opzioni che mi furono proposte per l’Erasmus in Italia prevedevano Cagliari, Roma e Padova. Non amerei particolarmente vivere l’esperienza Erasmus in una città tanto bella quanto caotica come Roma; Padova invece, essendo una città di media grandezza, offre la possibilità di conoscere nuove realtà quotidianamente con una certa confidenza negli spostamenti senza però lasciarmi mai spaesata, anche grazie a una buona rete dei mezzi di trasporto e all’opportunità di raggiungere il centro e i punti cruciali della città con una passeggiata. 

“Quali sono le somiglianze e le differenze culturali che ritrovi tra Italia e Spagna?”

Quando parlo di questi due Paesi, mi piace dire che sono Paesi cugini. La cordialità e il calore delle persone in Italia continuano a ricordami casa; gli abbracci, il contatto fisico e las sonrisas delle persone sono per me essenziali.

Presentano diversi aspetti comuni, quali il clima e il cibo. Ciononostante, gli orari dei pasti sono assai diversi, in Spagna siamo soliti pranzare tra le due e le tre del pomeriggio, e cenare tra le nove e le dieci di sera.

“Si fa più festa in Italia o in Spagna?”

Chiaramente in Spagna. Le discoteche e i locali sono molto più grandi e presenti a Madrid, le feste durano sempre fino al mattino, soprattutto al giovedì universitario. In generale penso che la cultura spagnola, affine a quella italiana, sia più dedita ai momenti di condivisione, allo stare insieme, tutto questo ci rende più felici e spensierati.

Sono contenta, comunque, che anche qui i ragazzi, per esempio i miei amici del Job Campus, siano disponibili ed entusiasti di uscire e far festa.

“L’accesso all’università è libero in Spagna o è subordinato all’esecuzione di un test d’ingresso come per la maggior parte delle facoltà italiane?”

L’accesso all’università dipende di base dall’esito del tuo percorso al Liceo. Esso termina con il Bachillerato, che corrisponde in linea di massima al vostro esame di maturità e viene conseguito al termine del percorso liceale. Tale voto va a sostituirsi ai test d’ingresso universitari e per questo incide profondamente sulla possibilità di uno studente di accedere a un determinato corso di studi universitario e presso un determinato ateneo. Il prestigio delle Università di Madrid e Barcellona le rende pertanto accessibili soltanto a studenti che conseguono ottimi punteggi al termine del Liceo.

“Hai avuto altre esperienze di studio all’estero?”

In terza superiore ho preso un volo per gli Stati Uniti e sono andata a studiare per 10 mesi nello Stato del Wyoming, dove ci sono più mucche che persone e nevica da ottobre fino a maggio. Ho fatto un po’ di fatica ad abituarmi al clima, ma la meraviglia dei paesaggi naturalistici ha ripagato tutto questo.

Quello che ho apprezzato maggiormente negli USA è l’attenzione e il focus sulla formazione extraaccademica dell’individuo, tramite la promozione delle discipline artistiche e sportive.

“Progetti per il futuro?”

Ho sicuramente molta voglia di viaggiare, per fortuna è un’idea estremamente compatibile con la carriera lavorativa che intendo intraprendere. Mi piacerebbe comunque stabilirmi in Italia o in Spagna ma non escludo, anzi sarò felice, di studiare e continuare a formarmi in città in cui si respira aria internazionale come Bruxelles.

“Qual è il lavoro dei tuoi sogni?”

Grazie al mio percorso di studi si ha ampia scelta, per poter ricoprire diverse cariche e lavorare in vari ambiti a livello internazionale. Non penso di voler intraprendere la carriera diplomatica né quella all’interno di ambasciate, aziende e istituzioni governative, vorrei piuttosto dedicarmi alla tutela e alla lotta per i diritti umani. Sarei lieta di avvalermi dei miei studi per poter concretamente aiutare le persone nel piccolo.

Hello Lula, would you like to introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Lucia Mauri Moneo, but everyone calls me Lula, I’m 20 years old and I live in Madrid,
Spain. I have studied “International relations and intelligence” for two years at the University
“Francisco de Vitoria” in Madrid and I am currently attending the third year of my bachelor’s degree in
Italy at the University of the studies of Padua as an Erasmus student. At the moment I’m living in Job Campus, which is one of the three buildings of the Collegio Don Mazza.

Why did you choose to come to Italy for your Erasmus?
In the beginning, I decided to do an Erasmus because I have always had the desire to get to know
different realities while experimenting habits and way of living from other cultures. Being an extrovert
person makes it natural to get to know other people and to establish solid relationships. For this
reason and because I wanted to live the University experience away from home, I decided to leave for
an Erasmus.
As my destination Italy was the best solution since my father is Italian and, even though I have been
to Rome and other cities many times, I have never lived there. I wanted to move away from home
without giving up the warmth and affection that only Mediterranean countries can give you. The
welcoming here was amazing, I have no doubts that this is the best state I could have picked for this
experience.
The options that were given to me for the Erasmus were Rome, Cagliari, and Padua. I wouldn’t love
to live the Erasmus experience in a city chaotic like Rome; meanwhile, Padua is a perfect size, it
gives you the possibility to get in touch with new realities daily without feeling lost and being able to
move around the city easily, also thanks to the means of public transport and the opportunity to get
to the main points of the city with just a walk.

Which are the cultural similarities and differences you have found between Italy and Spain?
When I speak about these two countries I like to say they are close relatives: the friendliness and
warmth of the people in Italy always remind me of home; the hugs, physical touch, and las sonrisas of
the people are fundamental for me.
Moreover there are a few things in common like the weather and food. Despite this, meal times are
very different: in Spain, we are used to having lunch between two and three p.m. and dinner between
nine and ten p.m.

Where do they party party the most, in Italy or Spain?
Obviously in Spain. There are many more clubs and discos in Madrid, which are much bigger as well,
parties last until the morning, especially during the giovedì Universitario. I believe that the Spanish
culture, similarly to the Italian one, is dedicated to moments of sharing, and spending time together,
all of this makes us happier.
I’m happy that people here, like my friends at Job Campus, are available and enthusiastic to go out
and party.

How do you access University courses in Spain? Do you have to take a test like in the vast majority of
the faculties in Italy?
Access to university is regulated on the results you get at the end of high school, which ends with the Bachillerato that corresponds to the school-leaving exam in Italy or final exam in USA. The vote of
this exam replaces the university admission test and influences profoundly the possibilities of a
student to access determined courses of study and particular universities. The prestige of the
universities of Madrid and Barcelona has made them accessible only to students who achieve
excellent scores at the end of high school.

Have you had other experiences abroad?
In my third year of high school, I took a flight to Wyoming, in the United States, and I went there to
study for ten months. There there are more cows than people, and it snows from October till May. It
took me a while to adjust to the climate but the beauty of the landscapes repaid it all.
What I appreciated the most in the USA was the attention and focus given to extracurricular activities
like art disciplines and sports.

What projects do you have for the future?
I surely have a big desire to travel and fortunately this idea matches with the working career I have in
mind. I still would like to establish myself in Italy or Spain but I don’t exclude to keep studying for
myself in cities in which you can breathe international air, like Bruxelles.

What is the job of your dreams?
Thanks to my educational background I have a wide range of choices to cover several careers in
different areas at an international level. I don’t think I want to embark on a diplomatic career within
embassies, companies and government institutions, I would rather like to dedicate myself to the
protection and fight for human rights. I would be grateful to use my studies to actually help people on
a small level.
